About this coliving

Sandbar Surf House is a surf camp in Arugam Bay with 7 bedrooms for up to 11 residents. Boards hang by the gate and most residents are in the water before breakfast. There's always something on: market trips, sunset sessions, weekend road trips with housemates. It's one of the easiest ways to stay longer without blowing the budget.

Wi-Fi runs at around 80 Mbps, with a 4G backup router. Every room has a desk, and rent includes utilities, Wi-Fi, weekly cleaning and bed linen & towels.

Arugam Bay is the east coast's surf town: a long crescent of sand, a string of point breaks within a short tuk-tuk ride, and lagoons where elephants come to graze in the evening. The main surf season runs from about April to October, when the town is at its liveliest.

Felt at home from the first evening. A great mix of people. We still have a group chat going. Lots of spontaneous weekend trips with housemates. My room was spacious and had a great desk.

Fine for a month, though I wouldn't stay much longer. Cleaning was thorough and the sheets were changed every week. Only downside: the road outside can be noisy in the morning.

A great balance between work and island life. Imran and the team made everyone feel welcome. Thanks for a wonderful month!

A calm, friendly base for a month of work. Imran sorted out an airport pickup and a local SIM before I even landed. Getting there from the airport takes a while, so plan the trip. Highly recommend it for anyone working remotely.

Lovely place with a really good crowd. Boards on site and a break five minutes away, so I surfed almost every morning. Imran took us to the local market and cooked rice and curry for the whole house. Can't wait to come back next season.

Everything just worked, which is rarer than it should be. The surf guiding was a highlight: Imran knows which break works on which tide. Perfect for intermediate surfers, and beginners get lessons right out front. Communication with Imran was quick and easy before I arrived. The kitchen gets busy at dinner time, but people are good about cleaning up. Already planning my next stay.

Exactly what I was hoping for. Great value for a long stay. My room was clean, bright and quiet.

A really well-run house. Family dinners twice a week made it easy to get to know everyone. Whenever something broke, Imran had it fixed the same day. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Came for one month and stayed for three. Very fair price for what you get, with utilities, cleaning and Wi-Fi included. Imran shared all the best food spots nearby. Would definitely come back.

Second stay here and it was just as good. The kitchen is well stocked and there is plenty of fridge space. Hot water was a bit hit-and-miss during my stay. Big thanks to everyone in the house.
