About this coliving

Reef & Desk is a guesthouse in Unawatuna with 7 bedrooms for up to 10 residents. The reef is close enough for a snorkel between calls, and gear is free to borrow. The work room has proper desks, monitors on request and a phone booth, so nobody takes calls in the kitchen. It's one of the easiest ways to stay longer without blowing the budget.

Wi-Fi runs at around 110 Mbps, with a 4G backup router and backup power for outages. Every room has a desk, and rent includes utilities, Wi-Fi, weekly cleaning and bed linen & towels.

Unawatuna is a sheltered bay just south of Galle, with calm water for swimming most of the season, a jungle-backed beach on the far side of the headland and good snorkelling on the reef. Galle Fort is a ten-minute tuk-tuk ride away.

I arrived knowing nobody and left with a group of friends. Snorkelling on the reef between calls became my lunch break. Kasun took us to the local market and cooked rice and curry for the whole house. There were a couple of power cuts, but the 4G backup kept us online. Would definitely come back.

Lovely place with a really good crowd. Great value for a long stay. Saw turtles on the reef three times in one week. The common areas are spotless and there is always somewhere quiet to work. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

A calm, friendly base for a month of work. Desks by the window and a backup router meant zero downtime. I had calls with Europe every evening and the Wi-Fi never dropped once. Kasun was incredibly helpful with everything from SIM cards to scooter rental. Only downside: the road outside can be noisy in the morning. Can't wait to come back next season.

A really well-run house. Very fair price for what you get, with utilities, cleaning and Wi-Fi included. The coworking room is properly set up: good chairs, monitors and a quiet booth for calls. Cleaning was thorough and the sheets were changed every week. Bring mosquito repellent for the evenings.
